Monthly Breast Awareness Exams

No doubt many of you are in the same stage of life that I am… that weird stage where you still get an occasional face pimples and have your period but you also might find an occasional face whisker (okay, that’s a whole separate post right there) and have hot flashes too. Ugh. It just doesn’t seem fair.
When I started to experience those not so fun pre-menopause symptoms I quickly found a group online to read up more and learn about some natural ways to combat the beast and make the most of this season of life so I could stay sane and not kill anyone else in the process either.
This week there was a link on the group to THIS ARTICLE. The article sites a BBC news story about how the death rates due to breast cancer among women who regularly perform breast self exams are equally high as those don’t and naturally quite a bit more biopsies performed (twice as many) among the group that was religious about the self exams.
Dr. Mercola goes on later on the page to talk about the BBC news item and how he has long been an advocate of the more relaxed approach of breast awareness. Not following a strict schedule, just being aware of what’s normal for you and watching out for anything abnormal. Pretty interesting and common sense stuff there… hmmmm….
I’ll let you read the article to find out more of the details of what he recommends as well as his very strong thoughts on mammograms.
After I read the article, I decided to respond back to the group a quick thought. This was my reply:
Not to make light of a serious situation but it seems like those of us who are married have built in “awareness” via our hubbies? I’m sure they would enjoy the official job if they don’t already.
Made you smile didn’t it?
I shared my little bit of humorous wisdom with my husband later on that evening. He smiled too.
