Starting a Business With an Advantage

If you’re planning on starting a business this year or as part of your New Year’s Resolutions for 2009, then can I suggest you not do it alone?
No matter how many books you read (and I do suggest you read materials) sometimes nothing can compare to the good advice you can get from someone who has been there. By that I mean someone who launched a business similar to yours.
If you’re planning to launch an internet based business then you’ll want to be surrounded by the women who have made this group one of the best mentorship and networking groups around. The group I’m referring to is Mom Masterminds.
I joined in 2007 and it was without a doubt the best decision I’ve ever made for my business. One of the things makes Mom Masterminds a practical gold mine is the Learning Center. During my first week as a member I could barely sleep because I couldn’t tear myself away from the information in the Learning Center.
What made the biggest impression on me was the way in which the information was presented. There are great comprehensive reports and guides, along with fantastic audio and video recordings. Here’s why I like that kind of choice…my days are hectic, I think I’m developing a slight case of ADD and I don’t always have 3 hours in a day to read. But… I’ve got an iPod and love listening to programs just about anywhere–at the market, in the car and even sometimes while I’m working.
I also enjoy listening to programs before I go to bed. We have our computer wired to a stereo system in our bedroom so that both my husband and I can listen to our favorite podcasts “in bed” as opposed to “reading in bed.” I get a cup of tea, prop up my pillows, grab my notepad from my bed stand and spend 30 minutes to an hour (depending on the length of the audio) catching up on a tactic or strategy to help me build my internet business. I love, love learning this way!
Another way I make learning something new interesting for me is by giving myself a little project to complete based on a topic from the Learning Center. For instance, I was recently contacted by an author (Andrew Blechman, the author of Leisureville) who found my niche website a good fit for his book. He contacted me and asked if I wanted a copy to review.
I thought great, how exciting this author found me! I must be doing a good job of implementing some of the traffic building strategies and promotional ideas I picked up from our MM resources (including our discussion boards). But I still wasn’t quite sure how to move ahead on a book review (especially for a book that had already been reviewed by the New York Times!). Good thing I remembered seeing that topic in the MM library.
Away I went to listen to Kelly’s mp3 on “Book Reviews & Author Interviews for Extra Content.” That was 26 “well spent” minutes. In that time I learned about responding to the request for a review, hooking into the affiliate sales opportunity and arranging for a podcast interview.
That initiative still brings me good traffic as the author included a reference to my site in the list of media credits on his website and when his popular book is Googled my site continues to come up in the first page of results.
The really wonderful thing is the Learning Center is open 24-hours a day, 7-days a week, so you can head over there right now to see what’s new or what topic needs to be revisited to boost your business. Of course, if you’re not a member you won’t have access, so now may be the time to get serious about your business and become a member today. This is one membership that truly pays for itself.
Momsprim is just entering her prime years and looking forward to the adventures ahead!
