The Beginning of Something New

By Regina Baker • Aug 18th, 2008 • Category: Business & Careers

If your kids have recently moved out on their own, you may find that you have a lot of time that you’ve probably not experienced in ages. Although your children moving out can be a real life change and a tough one at that, you need to make sure that you keep moving and that you take advantage of the time by doing things you enjoy.

Many women decide that this is the perfect time to start a business or even a new hobby, and if you are have been looking for something to do, you’ll find that this might be something worth investigating.

When you are considering a new business, think about what your strengths, weaknesses and what your interests are. Are you someone who loves to work on your own and can get a project done from beginning to end with no interaction from other people, or are you someone who would prefer to get out and talk with people? Are you most comfortable in jeans and a t-shirt, or are you someone would would prefer to spend every day in a business suit?

When you have thought about what you want to do, start doing some research on the business. As you’re probably aware, the Internet is chocked full of how to information and resources. There’s so much to learn when it comes to putting together a plan for your own business, and one thing that you have to look for, even if you think you are doing something totally new is that you need to see what other people who fulfill the same niche are doing.

If you are in a place where you want to think about turning your hobby into a business, just sit down and jot notes on what you think you can do in order to really maximize your time and your potential.

I encourage you to explore your options. Don’t waste your time sitting around sulking because the kids are gone. Most Women don’t know this but, your kids are watching you. A dear friend of mine told me her worst fear is being a burden to her kids. She desires to live her life to the fullest by occupying her time with the things that matter most to her.

Whatever you choose to do, have fun doing it!
