Tips for Your Fall Garden
By Momsprim • Sep 15th, 2008 • Category: House & Home
It seems like as soon as September 1st comes around a switch goes off somewhere and it immediately feels like fall. We may still have hot days, but something about the light and the tell tale signs of extra leaves in the garden signal that summer is winding down and fall has arrived.
It’s also a signal to get your garden ready for the next season. There are some tasks we need to do to ensure the garden is ready to withstand the coming the winter season.
Tips:
- Take your pictures now before the last blooms fade. I love looking at pictures of our gardens over the years - it brings back memories of different periods in our lives. The picture in this post is a picture of our hens and chicks - they give us beautiful fall blooms every year!
- Clean your flower beds! Now is the time to cut back those bushes and perennials that have stopped blooming or are diseased
- Take care of those tender plants that won’t be able to withstand frost, cover them up now.
- Stop fertilizing and pruning plants
- Look at your compost and give it a last turn
